We just got back from our first family vacation, and, needless to say, it is one we will never forget. We decided last summer to plan a trip to the beach with some of our friends. Sounds great, right. Well, we picked the week and were ready to begin looking for a beach house to accomodate all of us. The Lord worked that out for us, and we got a great deal on a house on the beach that would fit everyone comfortably. We thought this vacation would be a relaxing getaway for all of us. Think about it...seven days at the beach. Could it get any better than that. No, but it could get worse.
We left last Thursday and had a great time with our friends for the next couple of days. But that's when it all started going down hill. Nathan planned to preach on Sunday, so we drove back to our house for church. There we met up with my cousin and his wife. We had a great service and were getting ready to head back to the beach when the ball started rolling.
My dear, sweet friend Becky was going to turn the AC on in our truck so it would not be so hot when we put Silas in. Keep in mind that our truck is a stick-shift. When she started the truck, it began rolling forward right into our garage door. The door now has to be replaced. We got back to the beach safely and had a great time that night, but on Monday afternoon, we got a call that my pa-paw had been taken to the hospital because he was unresponsive. We thought that everything would be fine because it usually is. Later that afternoon, we got the call that he had bleeding on the brain and there was nothing that they could do. My cousin and I along with our families headed to Huntsville, AL. Our pa-paw passed away early Tuesday morning. We spent the next two days in Section. Things couldn't get worse, right. Think again.
As we were getting ready to leave AL, our friends called from the beach asking if we knew where their car keys were. If you're thinking we had their keys, you are correct. Nathan and I began making the trek back to the beach to give our friends their keys. We worked it out, however, so that they got a key from the dealership and met us on the interstate. We finally got home last night around 8. Are you feeling sorry for us yet? Just wait. When we woke up this morning, we found out that the breaker to our washer, dryer, and deep freezer had flipped while we were away. The freezer had thawed completely. We are in the process of trying to get rid of some meat and vegetables.
I think we will just stay home next summer.
